Definition : Endoscopes designed for direct insertion through the anal canal in the lower gastrointestinal tract for visual examination, biopsy, and treatment of lesions of the interior of the anal canal and lower rectum (e.g., fissures, fistulae, hemorrhoids). These devices are rigid endoscopes that may include fiberoptic light sources.
