Definition : Forceps used to gently grasp, extract, and apply traction to or rotation of the head of a newborn in order to facilitate delivery and removal of the newborn from the birth canal (the channel formed by the cervix, vagina, and vulva). They consist of two separate sides or handles and are manually squeezed together using both hands.
