Retractors, Surgical, Eye, Iris

Definition : Eye (ophthalmic) surgical designed to maintain the iris in a fixed position, enlarging and maintaining a constant papillary size, during surgery of the eye structures. These retractors may consist of a manual, handheld plastic (reusable polypropylene and disposable nylon) or metallic instrument with a straight (flat or round) handle at the proximal end; they usually include a fine blade at the distal end that is frequently shaped as a loop.
