Definition : Platform scales that include a sensor (e.g., strain gauge) and electronic circuitry to process the signal and display it as weight. These scales usually have a weighing capacity of up to 270 kg (600 lb) and an accuracy of 100 g (0.25 lb); some have increased capacity to 400 kg (880 lb). Electronic platform scales are used in physicians offices, hospitals, and nursing facilities.
