Definition : Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (e.g., serum) to determine alkaline phosphatase (AP), an enzyme secreted by neoplastic tumor cells (i.e., a tumor marker) of the liver and/or biliary tract. High levels of AP are found in primary or secondary liver cancer. They are correlated to the extent of liver and bone metastasis (e.g., prostatic cancer with bone metastasis).
