Analyzers, Point-of-Care, Whole Blood/Urine, Multianalyte, Diabetes

Definition : Multianalyte point-of-care analyzers designed to determine the concentration of analytes in the blood and urine that is appropriate for diabetes disease management. The most frequently measured analytes are glycated hemoglobin (GHB), also known as glycohemoglobin, in whole blood, and urine creatinine and albumin. The amount of GHB in blood represents the integrated values for glucose for the previous three months; the value of the albumin/creatinine ratio may be an indicator of microalbuminuria. These devices typically consist of a portable analyzer that includes a reagent cartridge to collect and assess the samples; they may use several measuring techniques, including photometry and immunoassay. Point-of-care analyzers for diabetes management are used in clinics and physician's offices to obtain criteria in assessing glucose control and/or to find early signs of possible diabetes-related nephropathy.
