Definition : Molecular assay reagents intended for use in identifying the acquired presence of three chromosomes in a patient sample (e.g., cells obtained from peripheral blood lymphocytes), rather than the normal two (i.e., trisomy). Acquired trisomies may occur in chromosome 12 (associated with chronic lymphocytic leukemia), chromosome 9 (associated with myeloid hematopoietic disease and myelodysplastic syndromes), and less frequently, in other chromosomes.
